0 First Social Network app “Renren” Released for Windows 8

Its been a couple of days for the Windows 8 consumer preview release and the Windows Store which features Metro apps which run on Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

We have been seeing some quality apps making their way to the Windows Store, with the likes of Photobucket and Kobo reader apps and some Metro based gaming titles featuring in the Windows Store upfront.But there wasn’t any social networking app for taking for the Consumer Preview users,Until now.The first Social Networking app to make it to the Windows Store is “Renren HD” app from the Chinese Social Networking Site Renren,.

Renren HD is designed to be fully-integrated with Windows 8, a generational change on Microsoft’s flagship operating system. Through “share contract”, a range of content from different applications can be shared at a single click, including web pages, pictures and videos. Customized for Windows 8, which focuses on integration with social networks and optimized for tablet usage, Renren HD has adopted features such as tiled Metro-style user interfaces and creative content delivery, resulting in a significantly enhanced user experience.

1 Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO 32-Bit / 64-Bit Now

Today is the big day for those of you who have been anticipating some fresh new Windows 8 bits to toy with: Following an official debut right next door to the Mobile World Congress – not specifically at it, it’s a little side event at the Hotel Miramar in Barcelona – Microsoft has just officially released the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.


So, what’s new in the build? Some of the more noteworthy improvements include OS-wide spell check (this is huge; it’s a feature that has been requested by a lot of people for years), the replacement of the Start button with what is called a "Start preview thumbnail" – which displays a preview of the start screen on top of an interface that allows you to cycle through all of your open apps – and the introduction of "Flyout" notifications.

One thing that I found to be quite humorous is that Microsoft actually added a feature called "boot forward"; see, due to the vastly improved boot times in Windows 8, it would be tough or impossible to pull up a boot options menu (i.e by pressing F8). They actually had to implement a feature that lets you set boot options prior to restarting. I will be writing a comprehensive review of this build shortly, in which I’ll elaborate on just how nice these features are when put to use.

It would appear that Microsoft finally hired a plumber to solve their constant leak issues as, surprisingly, there have been no Windows 8 build leaks during the interim period from September to now (of roughly five months). Also, little information has unofficially trickled out since; much of what we learned about the OS during that period is thanks to the notoriously long Building Windows 8 blog posts by Steven Sinofsky.

This Consumer Preview release is the first official Windows 8 build drop from Microsoft since the Developer Preview, which was released during the BUILD conference last September. This was downloaded quite rapidly, surpassing the 500,000 downloads mark within 24 hours of release, and the 3 million mark by December, so it will be interesting to see how much traction the Consumer Preview will gain.

0 How The GOOGLE Goggles Work? Surf the net, emails, make Calls - with your glasses

If you’re the sort of person who spends ages looking for your mobile phone, Google may have the answer.

And the solution will be right in front of your eyes – literally.

The technology giant is close to launching a pair of futuristic glasses that would deliver all the services of a smartphone straight to the wearer’s eye.

Featuring a miniature display on one lens, the hi-tech specs allow users to surf the internet or deal with text messages and emails without lifting a finger.

The screen is controlled with a ‘mouse’ which is moved simply by tilting your head. And should you still wish to actually talk to someone, it is believed the glasses will let you make calls using an in-built microphone.

Reports suggest the device, which would revolutionise the smartphone market, could be available by the end of this year costing less than £380 – making it cheaper than Apple’s iPhone.

Users would also be able to see through the lenses as normal and go about their daily business, then with a flick of the head activate the display and start surfing.

The glasses would use the same Google operating system that powers Android smartphones and tablets and would connect to the internet through 3G or next-generation 4G mobile networks.

They would also be equipped with GPS mapping technology and motion sensors, as well as a camera. It brings the prospect that wearers could be given information instantly on the buildings they are looking at, on nearby landmarks or friends who are in the area.

But the devices will also bring new potential for advertisers to reach users in ever more personal situations, such as in a lift, a restaurant or relaxing on their sofa.

The glasses are being worked on at the web giants headquarters in Mountain View, California

Seth Weintraub, from the 9 to 5 Google blog, revealed clues to how the glasses would work. ‘The system currently used is a head tilting to scroll and click,’ he said. ‘We are told it is very quick to learn and once the user is adept at navigation, it becomes second nature and almost indistinguishable to outside users.

‘These glasses, we heard, have a front-facing camera used to gather information and could aid in augmented reality apps. The heads-up display is only for one eye and on the side.’

The glasses are apparently being developed in Google’s top-secret research laboratory in Mountain View, California. Apple is also thought to be developing pioneering technology, such as smartphones that can be worn as watches or sewn into clothing.

0 How to Remove Write Protected Error from USB Drive or PenDrive

One of our readers has asked for this solution and hence as the post title says we will be trying to fix a very common error faced by many USB Drive users. This post includes four different solution sets for removing the write protection error for USB drives or simply pendrives.

Primary Checks

Prior to fixing your error, you need to do some basic checks

1. Make sure the write-protection latch of your drive (if it has any) is turned off.

2. If you are using an updated antivirus, try scanning the drive for viruses.

Solutions

There are many solutions to this problem and actually every one of them may have worked for some users but may not work for you. Hence I’m trying to enlist all the feasible solutions, so if one doesn’t work, try the other one.

1. Fixing Registry

• Press Winkey + R (or just open the Run from Start menu). Type regedit and hit enter.
• Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
  NOTE : If this is not there, you may need to add this entry. For that download the batch file add.bat from here, and double-click the file. The entry will be added to registry.
• Now in the right pane double-click the key WriteProtect. Now set the Value Data to 0 (zero) and press OK.
• Exit Registry and restart your PC.
• Now try using your USB Drive.

2. Using Formatting Utility

As the solution suggests we will be formatting the USB drive, so backup all the items in the drive first before carrying out htis step.

• Download Apacer Formatting Utility.
• Unzip the pack to a folder. Now double-click the Start.bat file in that folder. This will initiate the formatting. Wait until the formatting completes or the LED of the drive stops blinking. If you fail once give it few more try.
• Now remove the pen-drive and plug it in to the PC again. Now, open RUN and type cmd and hit Enter.
• Now in the command prompt, type CHKDSK [usb-drive-letter]: /F. That’s it. You are done.

3. Trying a low-level format

This is yet another solution which will try to solve the problem by using a low-level format. Don’t forget to backup your drive items.

• Download the free utility HDD Low Level Format Tool.
• Now using it, perform a low-level format of your USB drive. If you fail once give it few more try.
• Now open RUN and type diskmgmt.msc, hit Enter.
• Now right-click the USB Drive and press Format. Now do as shown in the screenshot below. Then press OK
  

4. For Transcend USB Drive Users

Transcend has its own Recovery Tool to get rid of this error.

• Go to the Transcend Product Support Page.
• Enter your Model No. of your USB Drive, hit Enter. Now select the product which which is most similar to yours from search results.
• Download the mFormat utility. If you are asked for serial no. enter your product serial no. or if you don’t have it enter this number: 1456784523.
• Plug-in your drive and run the utility to format your drive. You may need to try this method several times to fix the error.

Well as I said earlier that every single trick among all those listed above have solved the problem for many and has not for many others. Lets hope one of these will help you out of the “Write-protection” error. If you fail, feel free to ask. 1 How HTML5 Will Shake Up the Web

HTML5, the next version of the markup language used to build Web pages, has attracted attention for its ability to show video inside a Web browser without using plug-ins, such as Adobe's Flash. But lesser-known features could ultimately have a much bigger impact on how users experience the Web.

Experts say that what HTML5 does behind the scenes--such as its network communications and browser storage features--could make pages load faster (particularly on sluggish mobile devices), make Web applications work more smoothly, and even enablebrowsers to read older Web pages more easily.

Many websites now act like desktop applications--Web-based office productivity suites and photo-editing tools, for example. But many of the sophisticated features of these sites depend on connections that developers create between different Web technologies, such as HTML, javascript, and cascading style sheets (CSS)--connections that don't always work perfectly. As a result, websites can be sluggish, may work differently from browser to browser, and can be vulnerable to security holes.

Bruce Lawson, who evangelizes about open Web standards at Opera Software, says that to make websites perform functions the Web wasn't originally designed for, developers must perform complex coding tasks that can easily introduce errors and make applications fail.

The group working on HTML5, Lawson says, was given the tall order of making the specification more forgiving than its predecessors so that older or improperly coded websites will work better in HTML5-enabled browsers. They also wanted to extend the specification forward to support modern trends such as rich Internet applications. "The basis of HTML5 is relentlessly pragmatic," he says. "It's designed to reflect what people are actually doing."

Experts point to a feature called Web Sockets as an example of the improvements that HTML5 can offer. Web Sockets provide a website with an application programming interface (API) that opens an ongoing connection between a page and a server, so that information can pass between them in real-time. Normally, the browser has to make a request every time it wants an update.

The effect of Web Sockets is something like moving from having a conversation via e-mail to having it via instant message, says Ben Galbraith, who co founded the Web development site Ajaxian.com, and is director of developer relations at Palm. With e-mail, each message is sent as a single event, while instant messages allow for a smooth, ongoing conversation.
